Counselling for people in and around Durham

If you live or work in Durham and you'd like somewhere quieter than the city to talk things through, my room at Burton Woods is about fifteen minutes down the A167 - close enough to slip in around your day, far enough to feel away from it.

Easy to reach from Durham

From the city centre, Framwellgate Moor, Belmont, Gilesgate or Nevilles Cross, the drive is usually 15-20 minutes via the A167 or A690. There's free parking on arrival, which makes a real difference when you're trying to settle yourself before a session.

Many of the people I see from Durham are juggling work, study or family, and value being able to step out of the city pace for an hour. Some find that the journey home afterwards becomes part of how they process what's come up.

Working with students, professionals and parents

I've worked with university students struggling with anxiety or low mood, with NHS and council staff carrying work that follows them home, and with parents who feel they've lost themselves somewhere along the way. Whatever's brought you here, you're welcome.

If travelling to Spennymoor isn't going to work for you, I also offer online sessions - sometimes that's a better fit, especially in busier weeks.

Common questions

How long does it take to drive from Durham?
Usually 15 to 20 minutes via the A167 or A690, depending on which side of the city you're starting from. Parking is free and right next to the room.
Can we meet online instead?
Yes - I offer online counselling by secure video for people who'd rather not travel, or whose week makes it difficult.
