How I can help
Counselling, across County Durham
A short overview of what I work with, and the places people travel from. Whatever's brought you here, there is no rush.
What I work with
Anxiety counselling
Anxiety can feel like the volume's been turned up on everything - the racing thoughts, the worst-case scenarios, the tightness in your chest that won't quite ease. Counselling won't make life stop sending you difficult things, but it can give you somewhere to set them down for a while.

When everything feels flat, getting in touch with anyone can feel like too much. If you've managed to read this far, that already says something. Counselling isn't about fixing you - you aren't broken - it's about being heard, in a place where you don't have to perform.

Grief doesn't move in a straight line, and it doesn't keep to a timetable. You may have lost someone recently, or be sitting with a loss from many years ago that has never quite been spoken about. Either way, there's room here.

Most of the people I see about relationships come on their own. They want a space to think clearly - not to be told what to do, and not to be reassured too quickly - just somewhere to put the situation down and look at it from a few angles.

Stress sneaks up. You manage, and you manage, and you manage - until one day getting out of bed feels heavier than it should. Counselling won't take the demands off your shoulders, but it can help you understand what they're costing and what, if anything, you'd like to do about it.

The way we talk to ourselves matters - more than we often realise. If the voice in your head is harder on you than you'd ever be on a friend, you don't have to keep listening to it on your own.

Online sessions work well for people whose week doesn't easily allow for travel - shift workers, parents of small children, people with health conditions that make leaving the house tiring, or anyone who simply feels more comfortable from their own space.

I see people in person at Burton Woods, Spennymoor, and online by secure video. Most clients come from across the surrounding area.
Spennymoor
If you live in Spennymoor and you've been thinking about talking to someone, you don't have to travel far. I work from a quiet, confidential counselling room at Burton Woods, just a short drive from Spennymoor town centre.
Durham
If you live or work in Durham and you'd like somewhere quieter than the city to talk things through, my room at Burton Woods is about fifteen minutes down the A167 - close enough to slip in around your day, far enough to feel away from it.
Newton Aycliffe
Newton Aycliffe is only about fifteen minutes from my counselling room at Burton Woods, with a straightforward run up the A167 or A688. If you've been thinking about talking to someone, you don't need to travel far to find a quiet, confidential space.
Bishop Auckland
From Bishop Auckland it's a straightforward run up the A688 to Burton Woods - usually about fifteen minutes. If you'd like to talk to someone in confidence, away from the places and people you see every day, you're welcome here.
Ferryhill
Ferryhill is only a few minutes from my counselling room at Burton Woods - one of the closest places I see clients from. If you've been considering counselling, you really aren't far from a quiet, private space to start.
Sedgefield
Sedgefield is a small place and people sometimes prefer to talk to someone who isn't on their doorstep. My counselling room at Burton Woods is about fifteen minutes away - close enough to be easy, far enough to feel private.
